Continuing Education Program (CEP)
The Training Center is pleased to introduce the new Continuing Education Program (CEP) for all journeymen. The intent of the CEP courses is to encourage all
journeymen to participate in training. CEP courses are one or two night courses taught by Training Center Instructors or Vendors. Course descriptions are listed below . The rules for the CEP courses are listed below.
Continuing Education Program Rules
- CEP courses can be taken individually or towards Journeyman Certification.
- CEP registration is NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE, only through the mail or in the office. Classes are available on a first come first served basis.
- To be eligible to certify using only CEP courses, a "Journeyman Certification Enrollment Form" must be received by the Training Center office no later than August 31, 2011.
- To be eligible for certification, 30 hours of CEP classes must be taken within the 2011-2012 school year. (There is no roll-over of CEP hours towards another year's certification.)
- To received credit for a CEP course, a journeyman must attend the entire course. If the journeyman attends only one night of a two night course, no credit or hours will be issues for the course.
- A journeyman must have completed the "Core" class requirements before taking the CEP classes for certification. A journeyman may enroll in any number of CEP classes along with their regular journeyman certification course.
The Training Center reserves the right to cancel classes for lack of enrollment.

Journeyman CEP
Course Descriptions
Screw Chillers - This course will cover basic operation and design of screw compressor type chillers and their application. Common uses and practices will be discussed and basic troubleshooting skills will be achieved. 6 Hours
Variable Speed Compressors - This course will cover 2 speed compressor operation and applications in residential and light commercial installations. This course will also demonstrate troubleshooting techniques and common failures associated with 2-speed compressors. 6 Hours
VFD's - This course will cover common applications of Variable Frequency drives in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry. This course will also cover basic common programming of Variable frequency drives for fans and pumps when applied to the HVAC/R industry . 8 Hours
Turbocor - This course will cover Compressor overview and control of the turbocor compressor. This course will also cover Energy savings and installations of turbocor compressors in chillers and retrofit applications. 6 Hours
EXV/TXV - This course will cover Sporlan Expansion Valves both electronic and thermal. It will describe the applications of these valves and the different valve options that are offered for common uses in the HCAV/R industry. This course will provide troubleshooting techniques and serviceability of these valves. 3 Hours
Water Treatment - This course will cover basic water Treatment applications to open loop and closed loop hydronic systems for the HVAC/R industry. It will demonstrate testing and treatment options for various water conditions in hydronic systems. It will offer knowledge into servicing and applying treatment chemicals pertinent to water contaminants commonly found in HVAC/R hydronic systems. 3 Hours
ECM Motors - This course will cover Electronically Commutated Motors theory of operation and residential and light commercial applications in the HVAC/R industry. This course will also demonstrate troubleshooting techniques and inputs required to properly operate these motors. Load requirements and motor over airflow will also be discussed. 3 Hours
Boilers - This course will cover the typical operating conditions and basic service topics associated with heating hot water boilers as applied to the HVAC/R industry. Installation practices and maintenance requirements will also be covered. 3 Hours
Belimo Motors - This course will cover the Belimo actuator product line and common uses in the HVAC/R industry. Application and troubleshooting techniques will be demonstrated. Control of and maintenance on these actuators will also be discussed. 3 Hours
